Atsushi Sakai

Atsushi Sakai (died December 2012) was a Japanese baseball player who played for the Nagoya Wyverns during the 1990s. In 1997, he was benched in order for Tatsuo Shinada to pinch hit, and Shinada went on to score a home run that led to allegations of sign-stealing and Shinada's ban from baseball. Sakai later retired and became a construction worker in Sakae, Nagoya, while also being a Nagoya-gumi member. In 2012, he used heavy machinery to kill Shunsuke Koshino before he could identify to Shinada who had sent him to blow up the Uno Acupuncture Clinic, and Shinada noticed Sakai among the crowd. Sakai persuaded Shinada to meet him in private, only to attempt to kill him. Shinada defeated him and forced him tor eveal that the Wyverns had sacrificed Shinada for Nagoya's sake. Before Sakai could reveal who was in charge of the Nagoya Family, however, he was crushed by a falling cement mixer, having pushed Shinada out of the way out of guilt.
