Atholl is a historical region of central Scotland, located in the Scottish Highlands. Its name, Athfochla, means "New Ireland" in Gaelic, and it was named for its Gaelic settlers. It was historically an earldom, and, in 1703, Queen Anne made Atholl a dukedom.
