Ata Amankwah (1699-1785) was a member of the Maroons who served aboard the ship Experto Crede under Adewale.
Biography[]
Ata Amankwah was born in 1699 in Nigeria, and he was later sold into slavery to France. He was captivated in Saint-Domingue, but Adewale rescued him from his overseers and recruited him into the Maroons, runaway slaves who resisted colonial rule and sought to liberate others. Amankwah served aboard his ship Experto Crede, helping him in his efforts to free fellow African slaves from the empires in the Caribbean Sea.
