The Astoria Park shootout occurred on a spring afternoon in 2008 when the Hillside Posse attempted to murder Luis Fernando Lopez in Astoria Park, Astoria, Queens for stealing their drugs from Randalls and Wards Islands. Lopez and his associates Henrique Bardas and Armando Torres were targeted in drive-by shootings by Jamaican gangsters in their SUVs, and they engaged in a gunfight with the Jamaicans, killing several of them. The NYPD also responded to the shootout, and a few officers were killed. The shootout was one of many drug war-related gang shootouts to occur during the course of 2008.
