Asterion (died 431 BC) was a member of the Cult of Kosmos. In 431 BC, he was killed by the mercenary Kassandra in a naval battle off Andros.
Biography[]
Asterion was the orphaned son of two Greeks who were killed by the invading Persians during the Greco-Persian Wars, and he came to be a sailor during his adulthood. Tragically, he also lost his wife in a tempest, and he also lost his children, friends, and shipmates, leaving him with a desire for vengeance. After twenty years at sea, he joined the Cult of Kosmos, and he became a member of its "Gods of the Aegean Sea" branch. In 431 BC, the mercenary Kassandra tracked him down to a ship sailing off the coast of Andros in the Cyclades, and her ship, the Adrestia, proceeded to begin a battle with Asterion's ship. After immobilizing Asterion's ship with several hails of arrows, the Adrestia rammed into Asterion's ship, cleaving it in half and killing everyone aboard.
