Aslambek Abdulkhadzhiev (12 April 1962 - 26 August 2002) was a Chechen Republic of Ichkeria commander during the Chechen Wars.
Biography[]
Aslambek Abdulkhadzhiev was appointed commissioner of the Shalinsky and Vedensky districts by President Dzokhar Dudayev, and in June 1995 he led the hostage-taking at the Budyonnovsk hospital which killed 129 civilians and injured 415. He became Chechnya's most famed national hero overnight due to the successful raid into Russia, but he said that he did not want the Budyonnovsk hospital hostage crisis to be repeated, saying that he wanted peace (although he brought up that Russia's bombing of Shali killed or wounded 400 people and Budyonnovsk was only 30% of the losses at Shali). He remained an important commander in southern Chechnya until he was killed on 26 August 2002 by Russian forces.
