
Asker Dzhappuyev (14 January 1971-29 April 2011), also known as Emir Abdullah, was a leader of the Yarmuk Jamaat and the Caucasus Emirate.
Biography[]
Asker Dzhappuyev was born on 14 January 1971 in Kabardino-Balkaria in the Russian SFSR, Soviet Union (present-day Russia) to a Balkar Sunni family. In 2010 he succeeded Anzor Astemirov as the emir of the Yarmuk Jamaat in Kabardino-Balkaria, and the Yarmuk Jamaat substantially increased the amount of its attacks. He encouraged his fighters to avoid civilian casualties, while his commander Ratmir Shameyev was more radical and disobeyed these orders. On 29 April 2011, alongside Shameyev, Kazbek Tashu, and 8 other militants, he was killed in Progress, Stavropol Krai, by Russian FSB. Alim Zankishiev succeeded him as Yarmuk Jamaat leader.
