
Ashton Cokayne Shallenberger (23 December 1862-22 February 1938) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-NE 5) from 4 March 1901 to 3 March 1903 (succeeding Roderick Dhu Sutherland and preceding George W. Norris), from 4 March 1915 to 3 March 1919 (succeeding Silas Reynolds Barton and preceding William E. Andrews), from 4 March 1923 to 3 March 1929 (succeeding Andrews and preceding Fred Gustus Johnson), and from 4 March 1931 to 3 March 1933 (succeeding Johnson and preceding Terry Carpenter) and from NE-4 from 4 March 1933 to 3 January 1935 (succeeding John N. Norton and preceding Charles Gustav Binderup) and Governor of Nebraska from 7 January 1909 to 5 January 1911 (succeeding George L. Sheldon and preceding Chester Hardy Aldrich).
Biography[]
Ashton Cokayne Shallenberger was born in Toulon, Illinois in 1862, and he moved to Stromsburg, Nebraska in 1881 and to Alma in 1887, where he founded a bank. He served in the US House of Representatives from 1901 to 1903, 1915 to 1919, 1923 to 1929, and 1931 to 1935 and as Governor from 1909 to 1911, supporting the direct election of US Senators. He returned to banking and cattle breeding after leaving the US Congress and died in 1938.
