Ashikaga Motouji (1340-1367) was the fourth son of Ashikaga Takauji and the ruler of the Kanto Kubo of Kamakura.
Biography[]
Ashikaga Motouji was born in 1340, the fourth son of Ashikaga Takauji. He was made the daimyo of the Kanto Kubo clan in the Kanto region of central eastern Honshu by his father, campaigning against warlords who sought a return to the Kamakura Shogunate from Kyoto. Motouji was one of the few daimyo in the region to remain loyal to the Kyoto government, and he allied with his brother Ashikaga Yoshiakira to stabilize the shogunate after their father's death in 1358. Motouji died in an epidemic in 1367.
