
Asher Robbins (26 October 1761 – 25 February 1845) was a US Senator from Rhode Island (W) from 31 October 1825 to 4 March 1839, succeeding James DeWolf and preceding Nathan F. Dixon I.
Biography[]
Asher Robbins was born in Wethersfield, Connecticut in 1761, and he became a lawyer in Providence, Rhode Island in 1792. He moved to Newport in 1795, became district attorney in 1812, and served in the Rhode Island Assembly from 1818 to 1825. Following the resignation of James DeWolf, Robbins was appointed to the US Senate, serving from 1825 to 1839. From 1841 to 1845, he served as postmaster of Newport, and he died in 1845.
