Arzawa was a kingdom in western Anatolia which existed from the late 1400s BC to the beginning of the 1100s BC; its capital was Apasa (Ephesus). Arzawa was the western neighbor and rival of the Hittites, and the Achaeans and Azawa formed a coalition against the Hittites. The kingdom reached its zenith during the 15th and 14th centuries BC, as Arzawa had allied with New Kingdom Egypt. However, in around 1300 BC, the Hittites defeated an Arzawan-Achaean Greek alliance and split Arzawa into the vassal kingdoms of Mira, Hapalla, and Seha. After the 12th century BC collapse of the Hittites, the Arzawan culture was revived, and it continued until it unified with Lydia in the 7th century BC.
