Arthur Marshall

Arthur Marshall (2 August 1870 – 18 January 1956) was the British Liberal Party MP for Wakefield from 1910 to 1918 (interrupting Edward Allen Brotherton's terms) and from Huddersfield from 1922 to 1923 (succeeding Charles Sykes and preceding James Hindle Hudson).

Biography[]

Arthur Marshall was born in Ashton-under-Lyme, Lancashire, England on 2 August 1870, and he became a lawyer in 1904. He entered politics as a member of the Liberal Party, serving on the Harrogate Town Council for six years before being elected MP for Wakefield in 1910, serving until 1918. In 1918, he lost his seat to the Liberal Unionist he had defeated eight years earlier, but he was narrowly re-elected to Parliament in 1922 as MP for Huddersfield. He was edged into third place at the 1923 general election, and he retired from politics and died in 1956.
