Arthur Fenner

Arthur Fenner (10 December 1745 – 15 October 1805) was the Democratic-Republican Governor of Rhode Island from 5 May 1790 to 15 October 1805, succeeding John Collins and preceding Henry Smith.

Biography[]

Arthur Fenner was born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1745, and he came from a large family of wharf owners. He served as a lieutenant in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War before serving as a court clerk and as Governor of Rhode Island from 1790 until his death in 1805. His son James Fenner later served as a US Senator and as Governor.
