Arrohateck

Arrohateck was the home village of the Arrohattoc Indian tribe, now located in Chesterfield County, Virginia. By 1607, 250 Arrohattoc natives lived at the village, and they belonged to the 13,000-member Powhatan Confederacy. In 1607, the Arrohattoc warmly welcomed John Smith's Virginia Company exploration corps as it navigated up the James River, and the Arrohattoc helped the English settlers of the Colony of Virginia against hostile Indian tribes. By 1609, however, the Arrohattoc were no longer willing to trade with the settlers due to the increasing size of the European colony. By 1611, the Arrohattoc had been eradicated by disease, and the abandoned site of their village was used as the site of the new English outpost of Henricus.
