
Arphaxed Loomis (9 April 1798-15 September 1885) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-NY 16) from 4 March 1837 to 3 March 1839, succeeding Abijah Mann Jr. and preceding Andrew W. Doig.
Biography[]
Arphaxed Loomis was born in Winsted, Connecticut in 1798, and he was raised in Salisbury, Herkimer County, New York. He became a lawyer in Sackets Harbor in 1822 and moved to Little Falls in 1825, serving as surrogate of Herkimer County from 1828 to 1836, as county judge of Herkimer County from 1835 to 1840, in the US House of Representatives from 1837 to 1839, and in the State Assembly from 1841 to 1842 and from 1853 to 1854. He died in 1885.
