Arnulf of Metz (1 January 580-18 July 640) was the Bishop of Metz under Francia, and he was the great-great-great-grandfather of Charlemagne.
Biography[]
The son of Arnold from the House of Karling, Arnulf of Metz was born in 580. He was originally a courtier of Theudebert II of Austrasia, and at one time he cared for six distinct provinces. Arnulf fathered Ansegisel Karling, a statesman of Francia, and was the third great-grandfather of Charlemagne, who would go on to be Emperor of Francia.
