Biography[]
Arnolfo Teves Jr. was born in Bayawan, Negros Oriental, Philippines in 1971, and he came from a clan of politicians and businessmen; he was the brother of Pryde Henry Teves. He was elected to the Hosue of Representatives in 2016, and he supported Rodrigo Duterte's war on drugs, as he had formerly been a drug addict himself. In 2020, Teves challenged fellow representative Luis Raymund Villafuerte to a fistfight over a budget allocation spat, and he later encouraged Paolo Duterte to stage a coup d'etat against House speaker Alan Peter Cayetano. He also controversially attempted to rename an airport honoring assassination victim Benigno Aquino III in honor of dictator Ferdinand Marcos, while he filed a bill seeking to declare ghosting as an emotional offense. On 4 March 2023, while abroad, Teves had former Philippine Army personnel assassinate Roel Degamo after Degamo defeated Arnolfo's brother Pryde in the Negros Oriental gubernatorial election, resulting in the Pamplona massacre. Teves refused to return to the Philippines for an investigation, and he was suspended on 22 March 2023 and declared a terrorist on 1 August 2023.
