
Arnold "the King" Palmer (10 September 1929 – 25 September 2016) was an American professional golfer from Latrobe, Pennsylvania. During the 1950s, he became the first superstar of golf's television age, and he became popular due to his humble background and his plain speech; he helped to include working- and middle-class people in the sport. He won 62 PGA Tour titles from 1955 to 1973, earning the nickname "The King". He was a notable Republican donor, donating money to Pat Toomey, John McCain, Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, and George W. Bush. He died in Pittsburgh in 2016.
