The Army of the West was a Confederate army that was active from 4 March to 28 September 1862 during the American Civil War. The army, consisting of some 20,000 troops under General Earl Van Dorn, had most of its troops drawn from the Missouri State Guard, also having a regiment of cavalry from Texas and two rifle regiments, one each from Arkansas and Louisiana. The army was later merged with the Army of Mississippi, consolidating the two Confederate armies into one.
