The Army of the Emperor of Ethiopia was the main army of the Ethiopian Empire, formed in 1836 out of 9,000 Ethiopian "Galla" irregulars in the city of Matamma. It was led by Tewoderos Kasa, the best general in the Ethiopian empire. By 1837, it rose to over 21,000 irregular troops.
