The Army of Virginia was an army of the US Army that was active from 26 June to 12 September 1862. Four departments in the Washington DC area were consolidated into one command under General John Pope, who led an army of 50,000 troops upon assuming command of the army. The short-lived army was soundly defeated at the Second Battle of Bull Run, leading to the remnants being merged into the Army of the Potomac.
