Army of Islam

The Army of Islam (Jaish al-Islam in Arabic) is a Palestinian jihadist militant group that was founded by the Doghmush clan of the Gaza Strip in 2006. The group was once associated with Hamas, but it was shunned by both Hamas and Fatah after it aligned with al-Qaeda during the conflict with Israel. In 2010, group leader Mohammed Namnam was killed in an airstrike before the group could carry out attacks on Western tourists in the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt, and several other leaders would be killed in airstrikes. The group would be sympathetic to the Islamic State during the 2010s, writing a eulogy for slain IS leader Abu Omar al-Shishani after his 10 July 2016 death.
