Armen Garo (9 February 1872 – 23 March 1923) was the Armenian ambassador to the United States from 1918 to 1920 and one of the masterminds of Operation Nemesis.
Biography[]
Armen Garo was born on 9 February 1872 in Karin, Erzurum Vilayet, Ottoman Empire. He joined the Armenian Revolutionary Federation and fought in the Second Zeitun Resistance from October 1895 to January 1896 against the Ottomans in response to their massacres of Armenians. He served as the Armenian ambassador to the United States from 1918 to 1920 after independence, but from 1920 to 1922 he was one of the masterminds of Operation Nemesis against Ottoman and Azerbaijani leaders accused of perpetrating the 1915 Armenian Genocide. He died in 1923 in exile in Switzerland after the Soviet Union annexed Armenia.
