Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) was the ruling faction of Sierra Leone from 1997 to 2002 during the Sierra Leonean Civil War. Led by the Revolutionary United Front's soldiers, the AFRC controlled the country during a time when warlords competed for power, but it was driven out of the capital of Freetown in 1998 by West African troops. By 2002, when the civil war was drawing to a close, the AFRC and RUF had fragmented, leading to the rebels' defeat. Johnny Paul Koroma was once the AFRC's leader from 1997 to 1998 during its leadership of Sierra Leone.
