Armando Avalos Jr. was a US Army Staff Sergeant who served in the US 61st Cavalry Regiment during the Afghanistan War. On 3 October 2009, he helped defend CP Keating against several Taliban assaults during the Battle of Kamdesh, for which he was recognized with several medals.
