Arline Friscia

Arline Friscia (13 November 1934-16 October 2019) was a Democratic member of the New Jersey General Assembly from the 19th district from 9 January 1996 to 13 January 2004, succeeding Stephen A. Mikulak and preceding Joseph Vas.

Biography[]

Arline Friscia was born in Newark, New Jersey on 13 November 1934, and she worked as a schoolteacher and an NJEA field representative before entering politics as a Democrat. She served on the Woodbridge Township Council from 1988 to 1991, and she went on to serve in the General Assembly from 1996 to 2004. She extended the state's family leave law during her tenure. In 2003, she lost renomination to Joseph Vas, blaming her situation on the history of women being knocked off tickets in Middlesex County. She ran for re-election as the Republican nominee, but she was defeated by Vas, and she returned to the Democrats after leaving the Assembly. She died in Edison in 2019 at the age of 84.
