The Aristocratic Party of Athens was a conservative political party in ancient Athens. The party represented the aristocracy of Athens, and it opposed democratization and populism; its 5th century BC leader Cimon was rivals with the liberal statesman Pericles. Pericles succeeded in ousting Cimon from power in 461 BC, and he also ousted the conservative leader Themistocles in 442 BC, ensuring that his faction would remain dominant in the city-state.
