Argyll is a historic county of western Scotland. Its name - Airer Goidel - means "border region of the Gaels", and it was home to the kingdom of Dal Riata before the Viking invasions of Scotland. It borders Inverness-shire to the north and Perthshire and Dunbartonshire to the east.
