Arethousa the Toothless (died 424 BC) was a Greek mercenary who was active during the Peloponnesian War.
Biography[]
Arethousa the Toothless was a resourceful misthios who had the bad habit of chewing on her drachmae when she earned it. Some say she was once cheated out of payment when the coins she was given were fake. Others claim she simply liked the taste.
In 424 BC, she and three other mercenaries were hired to hunt down and kill the Spartan mercenary Kassandra after her public assassination of the Phocian king Antilochos the Dreadful. However, she was ambushed and killed by Kassandra while searching for her target in Kirrha.
