Biography[]
Archie Gates was born in 1953, and he enlisted in the Green Berets of the US Army during the Gulf War. Gates was a special forces soldier, and he rose to the rank of Major. Gates was assigned as an escort for journalist Adriana Cruz when she arrived in Kuwait to interview American soldiers after the war, but he instead traded stories for sex with another journalist, Cathy Daitch. Gates later found out about a secret kept by Troy Barlow, Chief Elgin, and Conrad Vig about finding a map that led to stolen gold bullion held by the Iraqi Army in Karbala, so the four of them set out to steal the gold for themselves. They got into a firefight with the Iraqi Republican Guard as they left the town, and they took some Shi'ite refugees with them as they fled; they were obliged to take them to the Iranian border. Barlow was captured in the fight, so Gates, his comrades, and the rebels attacked Oasis Bunker and rescued their friend, although Vig was killed in the process. Gates, Elgin, and Barlow escorted the refugees to the border (despite some interference from the US Army), and Gates was honorably discharged despite going AWOL and disobeying orders. Following the war, Gates became a consultant for war films in Hollywood, working together with Elgin.
