Arcas Salmoneides

Arcas Salmoneides (439-411 BC) was a Spartan soldier who fought in the Peloponnesian War. In 411 BC, he and his comrade Charmides Antipatrides attempted to ambush the Athenian soldiers Miltiades Chrysaorides and Helenos Anastasides in a wheat field, only for startled birds to give away their location. In the ensuing battle, Miltiades fatally stabbed Arcas in the jugular with a spear, only for Charmides - who had wounded Helenos in the chest with an arrow - to shoot Miltiades in the neck with another arrow, killing him.
