Aragon is an autonomous community in northern Spain centered around the city of Zaragoza (Saragossa). Huesca, Zaragoza, and Teruel are the three cities/provinces in the community, which had a population of 1,317,847 in 2015 - more than half of the population lives in Zaragoza. Aragon was ruled as the Taifa of Saraqusta for four centuries before the Kingdom of Aragon and County of Barcelona arose, and the empire formed by Aragon lasted until its unification with Spain in 1716.
