The Arab Socialist Movement was an Arab nationalist political party in Syria which was founded on 5 January 1950. It was founded by Akram al-Hawrani in 1950, and it was merged with the Ba'ath Party from 1953 to 1963, when it withdrew again. The Damascus branch of the movement became a party of the Syrian Regional Branch's ruling alliance in 1972, and it embraced Ba'athism and opposed Islamism. Another splintergroup joined the National Democratic Rally of Syria.
