The Arab League is a regional organization of Arab countries in the Middle East and North Africa, consisting of 22 member states as of 2016. Headquartered in the Egyptian capital of Cairo, the Arab League promotes cooperation between the Arab countries of the region, although they expelled Syria in response to the Syrian Civil War. Often compared to the European Union, the Arab League has sent peacekeeping forces to Lebanon and Libya in times of civil war, and they have formed an anti-Israel alliance.
