ar-Radi (December 909-23 December 940) was the Abbasid Caliph from 24 April 934 to 12 December 940, succeeding al-Qahir and preceding al-Muttaqi.
Biography[]
ar-Radi was the son of Caliph al-Muqtadir, and he became a tool of the ministers due to his weakness. The Vizier Muhammad ibn Ra'iq controlled the government for ar-Radi, and ar-Radi also had to face the rise of the extremist Hanbali movement. Ar-Radi was the last caliph to deliver Friday sermons, to discuss questions of the day with philosophers, to temper the severity of cruel officers, and to give money to the needy. He died in 940.
