Anwar ul-Haq Ahady (born 12 August 1951) was the Minister of Finance of Afghanistan from 2004 to 2009, succeeding Ashraf Ghani and preceding Omar Zakhilwal. He was a member of the social democratic Afghan Millat Party.
Biography[]
Anwar ul-Haq Ahady was born on 12 August 1951 in Surobi, Kabul Province, Afghanistan. Ahady gained an MBA and a Ph.D in political science from Northwestern University in Illinois, United States, north of Chicago. He also earned a Bachelor's degree as well as a Master's degree in economics and political science from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. Ahady was elected to become Minister of Finance in 2004 and succeeded Ashraf Ghani, and led the Da Afghanistan Bank, the central bank of Afghanistan. He was succeeded by Omar Zakhilwal in 2009.
