Anund Jacob (25 July 1008-16 June 1050) was the King of Sweden from 1022 to 1050, succeeding Olof Skotkonung and preceding Emund the Old.
Biography[]
Jacob was born on 25 July 1008, the son of King Olof Skotkonung of Sweden and Estrid of the Obotrites. His father gave him a Latin name, so the Swedish parliament had him add the Norse name "Anundr" to his name to make hi sound more Scandinavian. He supported Olaf II of Norway and Magnus I of Norway against Canute at the Battle of Helgea in 1026, which saw the Swedes and Norwegians be defeated by Canute's army. He also led a Swedish expedition to assist Yaroslav the Wise of Novgorod against Mstislav of Chernigov in battle. Anund died on 16 June 1050, and Emund the Old succeeded him as king.
