Antonio Pons (10 November 1897-12 January 1980) was President of Ecuador from 20 August to 26 September 1935, succeeding Jose Maria Velasco Ibarra and preceding Federico Paez.
Biography[]
Antonio Pons was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador in 1897, and he worked as a physician before serving as Governor of Guayas under President Jose Maria Velasco Ibarra. He briefly served as President in 1935 after Velasco's overthrow, only to resign later that same year before the military high command. Pons briefly served as Ambassador to Argentina before retiring from politics and dying in 1980.
