Antonio Azara (18 January 1883 – 20 February 1967) was Justice Minister of Italy from 17 August 1953 to 12 January 1954, succeeding Guido Gonella and preceding Michele De Pietro.
Biography[]
Antonio Azara was born in Tempio Pausania, Sardinia, Italy in 1883, and he entered the judiciary in 1907. From 1926 to 1942, as a magistrate of cassation, he helped to draft the civil code of Italy, and he refused to join the Italian Social Republic in September 1943. In 1944, he was acquitted of being a fascist apologist, and he went on to serve in the Senate as a Christian Democracy member from 1948 until his death in 1967; from 1953 to 1954, he also served as Justice Minister.
