Antonino Del Re

Antonino Del Re (died 1993) was an Italian businessman who owned Del Re Farmaceutica in Milan. He was murdered in prison in 1993.

Biography[]

Antonino Del Re was born in Milan, Italy, and he became the owner of a powerful pharmaceutical company, Del Re Farmaceutica. Del Re was involved with the Tangentopoli scandal, as he gave kickbacks to the party machines in Milan in exchange for drug price hikes and other benefits. In 1993, following Gabriele Monaco's testimony about the drug matrix, Del Re was arrested for his role in the scandal, and he offered to cooperate with authorities in uncovering the Sicilian Mafia's ties to both businessmen and politicians. In response, mafioso Luigi Brancato contacted fellow prisoner Leonardo Notte through his lawyer, Attilio Arnaldi, and Arnaldi told Notte that, if he killed Del Re, he would be released from prison. Notte had a North African student in his prison Italian-language class murder Del Re, and Notte was released soon after.
