Antonia Minor (31 January 36 BC-1 May 37 AD) was the younger of two daughters of Mark Antony and Octavia the Younger and the wife of Nero Claudius Drusus.
Biography[]
Antonia Minor was born in Athens, Greece in 36 BC, the daughter of Mark Antony and Octavia the Younger. She was brought to Rome that year by her mother, and Mark Antony divorced her mother in 32 BC. She was raised by her mother, her uncle Emperor Augustus, and her aunt Livia, and she became a wealthy and influential woman. In 16 BC, she married the Roman general and consul Nero Claudius Drusus, the stepson of Augustus and the brother of Tiberius. They had three children: Germanicus (father of Caligula), Livilla, and Claudius. Drusus died after a fall from his horse while campaigning in Germania in 9 BC, and Tiberius adopted Germanicus in 4 AD; he was poisoned in 19 AD. She outlived her husband, her oldest son, and several of her grandchildren, and she often served as an advisor to her grandson Caligula, who ignored her advice and even had her other grandson Tiberius Gemellus executed to remove a possible threat to the throne. Antonia, distraught by Caligula's insanity, committed suicide in 37 AD at the age of 72.
