Antoni Olechnowicz (13 June 1905-8 February 1951) was a Lieutenant-Colonel of the Polish Army who was a Home Army commander during World War II.
Biography[]
Antoni Olechnowicz was born on 13 June 1905 in Swieciany, Vilna Governorate, Russian Empire (present-day Svencionys, Lithuania). He joined the Polish Army in 1926 and was promoted while attending military schools, and at the start of World War II in 1939 he was the Quartermaster of the Polish 33rd Infantry Division. During the war, he served with the Home Army in Operation Ostra Brama, the failed attempt to take Vilnius from Nazi Germany before the Soviet Union could. He evaded capture by the NKVD, and he continued resistance against the USSR, with some Polish forces fighting the Red Army until the end of the 1940s. Olechnowicz was arrested on 26 June 1948 in Wroclaw and executed by the Polish People's Republic on 8 February 1951.
