Antoine of Lalaing, 1st Count of Hoogstraeten (1480-1540) was the chamberlain of King Philip I of Castile from 1501 to 1506.
Biography[]
Antoine of Lalaing was born in Culemborg, Burgundian Netherlands (now in the Gelderland region of the Netherlands) in 1480. He became Count of Hoogstraeten, and he also served as chamberlain of King Philip I of Castile from 1501 to 1506. In 1510, he became Councselor and Chamberlain to the young Charles of Luxembourg, the future Emperor Charles V. In 1522, he was appointed Stadtholder of Holland, Zeeland, and West Frisia. The sickness of Archduchess Margaret of Austria led to Antoine serving as acting Governor of the Habsburg Netherlands in 1530. He died in 1540.
