Antoine Richepanse (25 March 1770 – 3 September 1802) was a General in the French Revolutionary Army during the French Revolutionary Wars.
Biography[]
Antoine Richepanse was born in Metz, France on 25 March 1770, the son of a French Royal Army officer. He distinguished himself in the early battles of the French Revolutionary Wars and rose to the rank of Brigadier-General in 1794. Richepanse fought at Siegburg and Altenkirchen on the Rhineland front of the War of the First Coalition, earning him a promotion to General de Division in 1796. In 1800, he commanded a division in Jean Moreau's Army of the Rhine, and he distinguished himself at the Battle of Hohenlinden. In 1801, Napoleon Bonaparte appointed him Governor of Guadeloupe, where he paved the way for the restoration of slavery. Not long after his arrival, he contracted yellow fever, and he died in 1802.
