Antoine Gauzy

Antoine Gauzy (4 September 1879 – 12 June 1963) was a French locksmith and anarchist who was affiliated with the Bonnot Gang in early 20th-century Paris.

Biography[]

Antoine Gauzy was born in Nimes, France in 1879, and he later moved to Ivry-sur-Seine and became a locksmith. He let anarchists such as Jules Bonnot stay at his hovel, nicknamed the "People's Hall", free of charge. On 24 April 1912, the "Tiger Brigades" raided his hovel and attempted to capture Bonnot, who shot a policeman dead before escaping; Gauzy was arrested. On 27 February 1913, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison, and he was released on 8 July. He died in 1963 at the age of 83.
