Antinous

Antinous (27 November 111-30 October 130) was the favorite and lover of the Roman emperor Hadrian. Born in Claudiopolis, Bithynia (now the city of Bolu, Turkey) to a Greek family, he met Hadrian in 123 while he was studying in higher education in Italy. By 128, he was one of Hadrian's favorites, and he was counted among his retinue during his tour of the Roman Empire. He was a witness to the death of the Marousian Lion of Libya at Hadrian's hands, and Antinous himself would accidentally drown in the Nile River in Egypt in 130 after falling off of Hadrian's boat.
