
The Antietam National Battlefield is a National Parks Service-protected battlefield located at the site of the September 1862 Battle of Antietam in Washington County, Maryland. Established on 30 August 1890, the battlefield was transferred to the War Department in 1933 and was added to the NRHP in 1966. A visitor center was constructed in 1962, showing a 26-minute orientation film narrated by James Earl Jones on the hour and half-hour from 9 AM to 5 PM.
