The Anti-Revolutionary Party was a Protestant Christian democratic political party in the Netherlands that existed from 1879 to 1980, when it merged into the Christian Democratic Appeal. The party appealed to both Protestant and Catholic Christians, and Aeneas Mackay served as the party's first Prime Minister from 1888 to 1891. The party was classified as an anarcho-liberal party during the 19th century, although it was closer to a reactionary nationalist party, as it supported complete government control over the economy, religious moralism, and an aggressive foreign policy. The party merged into the CDA party in 1981 alongside several other Christian democratic parties.
