Anthony Strallan

Anthony Phillip Strallan (born 1866) was a British landowner who lived in Yorkshire, England during the early 20th century.

Biography[]

Anthony Strallan was born in Yorkshire, England, and he came from a family of lanwodners. He married Maud and lived at Loxley House in Yorkshire, but his wife died in 1912 before she could bear him any children. In 1914, he was invited to Downton Abbey by Cora Crawley, Countess of Grantham, who sought her daughter Mary to marry before any scandal arose from the death of Kemal Pamuk. However, it was Edith Crawley who developed an interest in Strallan and he in her. Their courtship was interrupted when Strallan was sent to Europe to engage in high-level diplomatic talks with Austria-Hungary and the German Empire only months before the outbreak of World War I. His courtship with Edith was ruined when Mary persuaded him that Edith found him boring, causing him to back down from his plan to propose to Edith at a garden party. At that same party, it was announced that Germany and Britain were at war.
