Anthony New (1747-2 March 1833) was a member of the US House of Representatives (DR-VA 16) from 4 March 1793 to 3 March 1803 (preceding John Wayles Eppes), from VA-11 from 4 March 1803 to 3 March 1805 (succeeding Thomas Newton, Jr. and preceding James M. Garnett), from KY-1 from 4 March 1811 to 3 March 1813 (succeeding Matthew Lyon and preceding James Clark), and from KY-5 from 4 March 1817 to 3 March 1819 (interrupting Alney McLean's terms) and from 4 March 1821 to 3 March 1823 (succeeding McLean and preceding John T. Johnson).
Biography[]
Anthony New was born in Gloucester County, Virginia in 1747, and he worked as a lawyer before serving as a militia colonel during the American Revolutionary War. He served in the US House of Representatives as a representative from Virginia from 1793 to 1805 and from Kentucky (where he moved in 1810) from 1811 to 1813, from 1817 to 1819, and from 1821 to 1823. He died in Elkton, Kentucky in 1833.
